I have a bye week on a couple teams and wanted to stash for playoffs.
On one team my QB is Mariota who has a nice week 15 game (my next meaningful). but someone cut Dak, and also Winston and Tyrod are FAs. Ill probably get a new roster spot if Cooper cant play with IR.
would you recommend I grab 1 of these QBs as insurance for Mariota struggles, and if so how do u order them? Buy low machine loves Dak @ oak. choosing between him still Zeke-less in week15 and Jameis vs Atl...jameis gets the saints for week 16 also
alternative thinking i guess would say, because there may not be a huge VORP between dak, jameis, tyrod, and a decreasing pool of QB needy opponents as theyre eliminated, i can instead roster a second defense, or J. Conner, T. Cadet, etc. thoughts? thanks guys, been so helpful all year on these forums!

Tough question. For me it's a toss-up between Jameis/Dak. My biggest concern for Jameis is that although he puts up numbers and has a good WR corps, both of those defenses have decent secondary's. Especially the Saints if their CBs are healthy. As with Dak, my concern is how the game bore out last night. If the Cowboys grab a lead, they could opt to just pound the game out and slow the pace of play down.
I think the value of a QB vs. grabbing a handcuff is sort of up to you. Mariota has a decent matchup vs. the 49ers, but inept playcalling has really stunted this offense IMO. However, I doubt either of those guys carry league winning upside, and instead have as sneaky low floor if the starter were to go down.
Do you mind sharing your roster?

Mind?! id be honored! thank you. if Cooper got ruled out id have a roster spot, otherwise id have to make a cut.
.5ppr, 2 flex league. so i could start 4 WRs or 4 rbs or 3 and 3 if i wanted. there are bonus points for huge 40 yard plays
ingram, Kamara, perine, Tevin
Julio, keenan, diggs, landry, cooper, shepard
FAs include: Blount, dunbar, breida, cadet, c west (after ur buy article, tho maybe the other hunt is in there now)

Your roster is so loaded that I can't really imagine a scenario where you'd start anyone not currently on it (at RB or WR). The value in holding Cooper and Shepard is mostly to block an opponent from picking them up.
My preference at QB would be Winston. He hasn't played well and may still be less than 100%, but there's a lot more shootout potential in his games/matchups. If you go away from Mariota - which I probably wouldn't do, but that TEN offense is incredibly frustrating - then you're probably more interested in ceiling.

Yeah. C West was probably the cuff, but I don't see much value in those RBs. I really like yours and I doubt there's much incentive for you to not use the Ingram/Kamara tandem. The only guy I'd check IR for would be Chris Carson in the even he returns. I still doubt that you'd play any of those RBs ahead of Perine/Coleman in the event of an Ingram/Kamara injury so they're not worth much to you.
I think snagging a QB would be the move here. My issue is I can't tell if Dak or Jameis is the better add.

I have a similar situation with Mariota or McCown. Right now I'm leaning McCown, Any thoughts or would you go with Gabert who is the best waiver wirer QB available?
PS: Late round QB really can hurt if you pick the wrong guys. (Mariota and Dalton). Thankfully, I have Bell and Gurley to make up for it.

I see, thanks for the insight. so you'd keep Shep or Coop to block folks. And IF a roster spot opened (like if Coop was inactive and I can slate him into IR) youd roster Jameis just for the option and see how both he and Mariota do... but be planning to most likely stick with Mariota, is that what you meant?

i cant tell either. QBs have fared better against Oakland than Atl. and Dak may be a slight underdog in Oakland in a couple weeks, with a perhaps improved O-line from the last few crappy games. but the pass rush in Oakand is no joke and Dak cant do anything lately when hes under durress.
since Dak is on waivers and i spent all my $$ on shepard n perine i can grab Jameis for now since hes FA. good chance someone snags dak after last nite anyway

@Badger Just a heads up - Mariota comes in with a crazy range of outcomes (lowest floor, one of the highest ceilings) but I'd still shade towards using him over McCown. Mainly because I think this game could go over and he represents a higher floor than McCown, but as always trust your instinct. I hope you're right about McCown as I have him in a do-or-die fantasy matchup for me this weekend, but I'm not expecting much.
As for LRQB, it depends how your league functions. Mainly the best application for LRQB is that it allows for you to spend higher equity picks on productive players to fill out your other roster spots before focusing on the most easily predictable position. The injuries to a bunch of QBs has decimated the QB depth for FF this season, or you'd have been able to easily jettison those guys for someone else.
@JollyG804 It's a sharp move to just spend for the FA now as opposed to letting it play out for you. I think Jameis might prove to be a decent option for you, but if not you're fine rolling Mariota out there.
Also, I agree with @FF_Contrarian about blocking the other teams. Essentially you want to avoid dropping high value FF assets to waivers that other players can plug into their lineups as usable pieces. The waiver wire is barren and finding someone like Cooper (single handedly win you weeks) or Shepard (WR1 with a soft schedule for the playoffs) is a boon to a team that has crappy roster depth.

Thanks for the comments. Right now, I have a really solid team so I'm more concerned with a QB bombing(6 pt TD league) than needing a big score from that position. While my QBs have been week, I have a very good team
RB: Bell, Gurley, Martin, Henry, Rod Smith
QB: Mariota and McCown
WR: Fitz, Diggs, Hogan and Davis
TE: Kelce and Henry
Def Patriots and Saints
starters QB, 2RB, 2WR, Flex, TE, K and Def

Yeah. Your team is very solid IMO and you can feel comfortable rolling either QB out.

Yep, if Cooper is stashable, I'd try to hold Winston to see what he does this week.

@FF_Contrarian in a similar position to @JollyG804 I currently have both Carr and Aaron Rodgers rostered. I don’t play a game again until Week 15, so I only need to win 15 and 16 to take home the ship.
Should I drop Carr for Mariota or Tyrod? Also, should I be rostering someone like J Connor here since he could see a massive uptick in value by the time week 15 and 16 come around? I could drop either Martavis or Dede to add him. (Other WRs - Julio, Diggs, Cooper, C Davis, CoCo).

I think those moves make sense. The Oakland passing game is in disarray, and I'd prefer Mariota with the rushing floor. (Obviously you'll play Rodgers anyway, unless he's not ready in Week 15.) I really like Davis and Coleman to finally emerge over the next couple of weeks, and I was going to say to drop Bryant, but that's probably a hold (to block opponents) with Brown looking questionable, although with the configuration of your league, that may be meaningless when you look ahead to Week 15.
#15 By: Dennis, December 2nd, 2017 13:56
Interesting...I picked up Rodgers too in another league to backup Brees, but had to let Rudolph go (in favor of Henry).
I like Davis this week to finally score espesh if Mathews is out again. Do you like either of the Corey's over Jarvis this week facing Harris? in a "hoping for a bye" situation in full ppr with Jarvis currently in over Davis, Coleman, Jordy.
also, any chance u like Burkhead over Dion this week? Dion had the touches but Rex seemed to have the higher expected pts workload, no? have the option in a couple teams both .5ppr and 1ppr

@FF_Contrarian revisiting this, I’m on bye this week with both Mariota and Rodgers on roster. My RBs are: Kamara, Tevin, Rod Smith, Aaron Jones, D Booker.
I feel pretty good about every position except my RB2 and feel like I need to bolster the position in the event of a Tevin or Kamara injury.
Crowell, Mack, Doug Martin, Mike Davis, Blount, J Connor are all available.
Would I be crazy to drop Mariota (and potentially risk having to stream if ARod can’t go) to add one of these guys? I also plan on dropping Booker. Thank you for all the help you have given.

Id keep Marcus for now. He looked pretty good this week and may get some rapport with his full arsenal of weapons in time for Matthews to return for you in a sweet matchup. he also got a goal line TD, so like it or not their lazy coach is still calling exotic smuch plays.
The answer here for me would come down to your streaming options. if youre in a league where u can easily scoop good players like Keenum, Jameis, Tyrod, its worth considering. But remember, Rodgers said having too many x-rays a couple years ago slowed his recovery so hes avoiding them this time. which means he still needs to clear a Scan AND have the mathematical playoff motivation to risk reinnjuring.
Since those RB options dont look so good and as teams gets eliminated u may have less comp to scoop 1 in the event of a Tevin, kamara injury. tho both guys in shares means theyre less likely than ur Bells gurleys gordons to go down anyway .
defer to the pros. but thats my 2 cents.
-finally, u have rostered some guys who may see a boost with an injury to anyone in a backfield. Jamaal charles or cjA injury helps booker. jamaal williams injyr helps jones. ajayi or clement helps blount. mckissic, lacy rawls may even "help" davis

Thank you for the posts, I find your logic in roster decisions to be very helpful, so glad you chimes in with this. I believe this may be the most measured approach - as QBs (though replaceable) are very important in winning individual matchups. QBs available are Carr, Tyrod, McCown, Bortles.
Would you add Connor over guys with more current value such as Crowell, Mike Davis and D Booker?
#19 By: Dennis, December 5th, 2017 11:53
Hmmm, I like Mariota over all those options. however, Carr and TyRod are not bad fall back options if you were finding a way to add a significant upside play with ur last roster spot. but i dont see who that would even be. the pats just basically shut down McCoy at home. so itd be difficult to really trust Conner is that guy even IF bell got hurt this week, which isnt likely.
so id roll with mariota, and id probably keep those 3 guys keeping an eye on Mike Davis as my preferred play if nothing changed except say a coleman or kamara injury.

Lots of good stuff from @JollyG804 there. I'd probably also stay with Mariota and add Davis over Booker if I'm understanding the scenario correctly.
