Week 14 waiver wire advice. The parameters and assumptions of this weekly waiver wire advice column can be found in the preseason introduction. My advice this week is pared down to focus on teams that are playoff bound but need a short-term boost or want to block their playoff opponents by grabbing the few remaining free agents…

@CKl @FF_Contrarian I could use some advice (and/or condolences) for my TE situation. Due to playing Tyrod over Alex Smith this week, I probably no longer have a bye (unless Ben + Juju score less than 10 total AND Mixon scores less than 5). I currently have Vernon Davis and Jordan Reed rostered. The waiver wire is a carnival of sadness (even Ricky Seals-Jones is rostered): Charles Clay, OJ Howard, Jesse James, Ed Dickson, Marcedes Lewis, Njoku, Stephen Anderson, Garrett Celek, Lance Kendricks, Dwayne Allen, Trey Burton. Rickey Seals-Jones, Julius Thomas, Ben Watson are all rostered. Burton is intriguing if Ertz is out, although the Rams defend the TE well. Kendricks, Celek, and Allen (now that Gronk is out) all have good matchups but don't inspire any confidence. Stephen Anderson got 12 targets, which is more than VD has gotten the last 3 weeks combined. But I'm already starting DeAndre Hopkins and I don't think my heart or stomach can handle starting two guys catching passes from Tom Savage. So would you hope that VD catches fire (pun intended)? If not, who would you choose from the land of misfit TEs? Keep in mind the Gronk owner needs a TE and I'm out of FAAB, so I may not even get my first choice.

I am interested in this as well.
I am a GRONK owner and this totally blows! I have Olsen rostered, so hopefully he plays.. but Hogan comes back. But what a time to be stupid!

This is also interesting to me as a fellow Gronk owner. I owned Brate as a backup until 2 weeks ago. I have 54 of my 100 FAAB budget left.
@CKl and others, is it worth blowing the lot on Brate on Weds? or should I pick up someone less valuable, like Julius Thomas and hope Gronk's appeal works? If I had Thomas rostered I could then wait until Monday before deciding who to play. But am guessing Gronk's appeal will be done before the wknd (and unlikely to be upheld, I imagine).
Other available TEs are Ebron, Fiedorowicz, Dickson, OJ Howard and Njoku.

Tough tight end situations guys, sorry about that.
mateo, i'd roll w VD or Reed.
Will, i'd see what @Ndutton @ndutton13 says but i'd prob go for Brate.

@CKl thanks. it's especially annoying because I drafted Gronk in the 1st round and only had Brate on my bench due to my injury fears, plus he was a late-round keeper from last season. Sod's law Gronk has been almost entirely healthy before this unnecessary suspension.
@Ndutton @ndutton13 your thoughts on how much of my 54 remaining FAAB is Brate worth very welcome. Most other teams in playoffs are ok at TE, so think my main competition is rival teams trying to do me over ahead of 1st round!

Should I pick up Mike Davis and start him over Crowell? Seperately my gut tells me to start Dak (vs. NYG) over McCown (vs. Denver) given the matchups...thoughts?

Sounds like Stephen Anderson was the last man standing in Houston with injuries to Fiedorowicz (concussion), Fuller (ribs), Bruce Ellington (hamstring), and Braxton Miller (concussion). According to Evan Silva, he played a ton of WR last week and set a career high in snaps (84%) and targets. Based on this new info, I'm seriously consider trying to grab him. Here's Silva's tweet

You said VD.

That is excellent information to know.

@mateoloco The Gronk situation is really frustrating. If there's any good news, it's that Week 13 did create some more streamer possibilities. Anderson was heavily involved as you mentioned, and Savage has been moving the ball, which helps. (His biggest problem has been backbreaking turnovers.) Unless I'm a huge underdog, I actually like starting both Hopkins and Anderson together, so I'd be following the news on the rest of the pass-catchers pretty closely.
Clay, Njoku (who looked very good in Week 13), and Trey Burton are also intriguing (assuming I understood which guys were available and which weren't). Phil wrote about Burton today for Dumpster Diving. And I agree with @CKl on Davis, so there are some options, although nothing like Gronk.
@calmrabbit I prefer Mike Davis over Crowell. I would still go with McCown - he's been on fire to my guy Robby - but Dak probably offers a better floor if you're favored.

Thanks for the reply. And yes, you did understand correctly which guys were available; looking back on it now I realize that it was quite confusing. I'm going to hold on to Vernon Davis and try to grab both Anderson and Burton and follow the injury news closely before I make my final decision.

.5 PPR, 2 RB 3 WR 1 TE
QB: Mariota, Tyrod
RB: Burkhead, McKinon, Duke, Booker, Ekeler
WR: AJG, Evans, Keenan, Diggs, Corey Davis
Working under the assumption Ertz will be out this week, out of Brate, Burton, and Allen which do you prefer as a 1 week option? I was also planning on on scooping up Winston or McCown and dropping Tyrod and starting one of those guys over Mariota this week. Mike Davis is also available.
How would you prioritize one of those 3 TEs, Mike Davis and 1 of the 2 QBs?

It’s a tough one, Brate supposedly has this great connection with Winston, but was only targeted twice last week. I low like Njoku this week, Packers are starting to leak TDs to TEs, but given the track record I’d be tempted to go 25% of your FAAB for Brate
#15 By: William Russell, December 5th, 2017 18:00
@ndutton thanks for this. Will see how I go with getting Brate and consider Njoku if I don't get him. What do you think about Stephen Anderson, mentioned above by @mateoloco? Sounds an intriguing situation, but is relying on Tom Savage just too risky a ploy...?
#16 By: Shawn Siegele , December 5th, 2017 18:13
Dave's early GLSP likes McCown and Brate, which I think makes sense given the defensive tendencies of those teams. Detroit really struggles against the TE, and Denver's collapsing team is far better against the run than pass. (I could see playing Mariota if Rishard is available, given his rushing adds to the floor.)
You might cut Booker and pick up Davis. (I like Booker in a vacuum, but that offense is basically done for 2017.)
#17 By: Matt, December 5th, 2017 18:35
Didn't Brate get 6 targets last week with Winston back?
#18 By: kdenigris, December 5th, 2017 18:50
Given my current roster construction what order would you prioritize QB vs TE vs RB pick ups for this week?
#19 By: William Russell, December 5th, 2017 18:58
I think @ndutton meant 2 receptions on 6 targets
#20 By: Shawn Siegele , December 5th, 2017 19:06
Since TE is the need for an immediate start, I would probably prioritize that unless you've got a good sense that all of the TEs will be available. Hopefully you won't ever need Davis for your lineup, but that's also a consideration since McCown probably won't be a WW emphasis heading into a matchup with Denver's name brand defense.
